Dr. Monique Mujawamariya started her career as human rights
activist, funding ADL (Organisation for the Protection of People
and public Freedom of Rwanda). In 1993, she became executive
secretary of LDGL (League of human rights in the great lakes region: Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zaire). She served for a long time as consultant at the American department for African affairs in Washington, then roving conference speaker for Amnesty International. In 1993 and 1994, she got the Best prize of human rights defender and Human Watch. In 1995, she got a honorific doctorate of humanitarian letter of Amhesrst College, and the world democracy prize of NED (National Endowment for Democracy).
